Double-Sided Fireplace | Easton, Connecticut
An epic and totally custom freestanding stone fireplace, inspired by the very same stones within it, crafted to create two unique outdoor rooms. Every single stone was handpicked from a local granite quarry and fieldstone farm, down to the tiny pebble details. The fireplace effortlessly divides the outdoor space into two distinct rooms, each with its own ambiance and purpose. Both areas exude a sense of conviviality and togetherness, two outdoor rooms where laughter and conversation fill the air. Step into these outdoor rooms, and immerse yourself in a symphony of craftsmanship and nature's bountiful wonders.
Each piece of stone is unique. All hand-selected for their shape, size, and character.
Tons of time, detail, blood, and sweat go into these functional sculptural pieces. This fireplace contains approximately 20 tons of stone. This is something you just can’t achieve with thin-stone or block products. Bringing functional art into your outdoor living space is what we do and, by utilizing all natural stone, we eliminate waste and create something totally custom that no one else has.
There’s a power behind large weathered stone, a sense of permanence and a feeling of wonder. These large granite slabs were found in an abandoned section of the quarry, laying in an area that had been reclaimed by trees, ferns, moss, and fallen leaves. These environments leave behind spectacular patina and lichen on the stones themselves, giving it character. When we take on a project, we’re incredibly thorough, scavenging remote and untouched areas others might not look, until we find the perfect pieces to suit the intended design.
This fireplace is double-sided to be enjoyed from what is now two outdoor rooms. One, a more formal dining area with a natural stone grill station. Two, an intimate seating area to roast s’mores or relax and enjoy the fire. The fire can also be viewed from a hot tub, situated just off the far edge of the patio.
Small niches carefully built into the structure allow for plantings or decor, bringing an added sense of ambiance and character. Every angle lends itself to something new and interesting to look at — small details within the placed fieldstone, pebbles, lichen, or color and texture variations in the granite.
